PnPUtil — scan devices

When to use it

Use after reconnecting hardware or changing a device path when Windows has not automatically rediscovered the device.

When not to use it

A scan does not repair defective hardware or guarantee a suitable driver exists. Do not pair it with force-delete driver commands unless a specific advanced procedure requires that.

Code 22 means Windows sees the device but it has been disabled; enable the device before reinstalling drivers.

Code 45 is a connection/presence state; reconnect or power the hardware before changing drivers.
