8 Abstract Noun Examples

Use these examples to study structure, specificity, tone, and variation. They are demonstrations—not claims about a real person or organization unless the example itself makes that explicit.

What to notice in the examples

Effective abstract-noun writing makes intangible ideas concrete enough for the reader by pairing them with observable actions, examples, causes, consequences, or measurements instead of relying on vague labels alone.

  • Name the intangible concept precisely.
  • Connect the concept to observable evidence or behavior.
  • Avoid stacking several abstract nouns where a concrete verb would be clearer.

Turn an example into your own writing

Keep the underlying decision or pattern, then replace the subject, evidence, relationship, constraints, and tone with details that belong to your situation. If your final line still works after swapping only one noun, it may be too close to the example.
