This is one of the site’s deepest example collections: 300 original examples organized across 9 practical categories. Search, filter, and compare patterns without reading the list in order.

What to notice in the examples

A strong annoyance description keeps the scale believable, identifies the specific friction, and shows how patience, wording, attention, or routine changes. It can escalate into anger or dissolve quickly, but it does not automatically require hostility or dramatic body language.

  • Keep annoyance proportional to the trigger and stakes.
  • Use repetition, clipped choices, redirects, object handling, or dialogue before stock facial cues.
  • Let affection and annoyance coexist in close relationships.
  • Show whether the irritation is situational, cumulative, or directed at a person.
  • Track escalation if annoyance grows into anger.
  • Avoid making every minor inconvenience produce insults, eye-rolling, or aggression.

Use these fuller examples to see what changes between a recognizable pattern and a finished piece of writing. The examples are original or explicitly illustrative, so they demonstrate structure without inventing real-world evidence.

Worked example 1Mild cumulative irritation

A software alert repeats during focused work.

The fourth popup arrived before she finished closing the third. Priya muted the channel, wrote the missing task on paper, and kept working.

Why it works: The response stays proportional and practical.

Worked example 2Affection plus annoyance

A sibling keeps tapping the table.

“I love you,” Mara said, sliding the spoon out of his hand, “and this spoon is about to live in another room.”

Why it works: The irritation is clear without erasing the relationship.

Prompt → finished structure

These transformations make the hidden planning step visible so the template does not become a fill-in-the-blanks substitute for judgment.

Transformation 1Rage language → proportional irritation

Starting material: He was furious when the app loaded slowly.

Decisions
Match intensity to the inconvenience.

Result: He watched the spinner reset, muttered once, and opened the offline copy instead.

Transformation 2Eye roll → specific boundary

Starting material: She rolled her eyes in annoyance.

Decisions
Show what repeated friction she wants stopped.

Result: “I answered that in the notes,” she said, and pushed the marked page back across the table.

LevelWhat changesQuality test
Clear scene evidenceDefine the specific trigger, pressure, mismatch, loss, or unanswered question before choosing surface cues. The page teaches a repeatable scene mechanism rather than a synonym list.
Scene integrationConnect the effect to dialogue, action, attention, pacing, relationship, or decision. The description changes what happens next instead of decorating the prose.
Advanced controlUse mixed motives, viewpoint limits, escalation, restraint, timing, and payoff deliberately. The writing stays specific while avoiding mind-reading, stereotype, or artificial delay.
