11 Case Study Writing Examples

Use these examples to study structure, specificity, tone, and variation. They are demonstrations—not claims about a real person or organization unless the example itself makes that explicit.

What to notice in the examples

A persuasive case study is specific about the before-state, avoids turning correlation into unsupported causation, explains what was actually done, quantifies outcomes when possible, and preserves enough context for readers to judge whether the result applies to them.

  • Customer, project, or situation context.
  • Problem and baseline condition.
  • Approach, constraints, and implementation.
  • Results supported by metrics, observations, or quotations.
  • Interpretation, limitations, and next step.
1

Support case study: ticket backlog fell from 480 to 170 after the team reorganized routing and published answers for the ten most repeated questions.

2

Onboarding case study: new hires reached independent task completion one week earlier after role-specific practice replaced a single information-heavy orientation.

3

UX case study: checkout completion improved after address validation and error recovery were redesigned, while traffic source and pricing remained unchanged.

4

Research case study: interviews revealed that customers understood the product but could not explain which plan fit their usage, leading to a new comparison flow.

5

Operations case study: weekly reconciliation time fell after automation, but the study notes that exception handling still requires manual review.

6

Content case study: organic signups rose after a cluster of troubleshooting guides launched, while the team avoids claiming every increase came from content because a pricing campaign ran simultaneously.

7

Training case study: assessment scores improved modestly, but manager observations showed the largest change in confidence handling unusual cases.

8

Community case study: library digital-help sessions increased successful application completion, with the strongest effect among patrons who needed file-upload assistance.

9

A credible case study distinguishes the customer’s baseline from the post-change result and states what else changed during the same period.

10

Instead of “productivity improved dramatically,” a case study can report that weekly reconciliation time fell from six hours to two after the workflow change.

11

Before implementation, the client reconciled 1,800 monthly invoices manually. After consolidating intake and matching rules, average reconciliation time fell from six days to two across the next three closes.

Turn an example into your own writing

Keep the underlying decision or pattern, then replace the subject, evidence, relationship, constraints, and tone with details that belong to your situation. If your final line still works after swapping only one noun, it may be too close to the example.
