8 Citation Integration Examples

Use these examples to study structure, specificity, tone, and variation. They are demonstrations—not claims about a real person or organization unless the example itself makes that explicit.

What to notice in the examples

Good citation integration gives the source enough context, represents it accurately, uses the required citation form, and follows the evidence with interpretation instead of dropping a quotation into the paragraph without explanation.

  • Introduce the source or evidence when identity matters.
  • Quote only wording that is worth preserving exactly.
  • Use paraphrase for ideas whose wording is not essential.
  • Place the citation where readers can tell what it supports.
  • Explain the evidence’s relationship to the paragraph claim.

Survey data from Rivera (2025) show that riders rated ten-minute service as more predictable than thirty-minute service even when both routes met their published schedules. This suggests that perceived reliability depends partly on the cost of a missed vehicle, not only on timetable accuracy.

2

Frequent retrieval can strengthen later recall, but the benefit depends on attempting to produce the answer rather than simply rereading it (Chen, 2024). The distinction matters because recognition during study can feel like mastery without requiring independent recall.

3

As Patel writes, “maintenance is part of planting.” The phrase captures the report’s broader argument that survival budgets should be treated as infrastructure rather than optional aftercare.

4

The city’s 2025 canopy report records the lowest tree cover in the three neighborhoods with the highest modeled summer surface temperatures. The report does not establish causation, but the overlap helps identify where further heat-risk analysis is warranted.

5

Several onboarding studies distinguish access to information from role clarity (Lopez & Singh, 2026; Ahmed, 2024). Taken together, they suggest that documentation is most useful when paired with examples of actual decisions and responsibilities.

6

The museum catalog dates the restoration to 1912, while conservation records list major treatment in 1914. Because the two primary documents disagree, the restoration year should be presented as uncertain rather than silently choosing one.

7

Nguyen’s interview study emphasizes manager availability, whereas Stone’s log analysis emphasizes written decision records. The methods capture different parts of coordination, so the findings are complementary rather than directly contradictory.

8

According to the service manual, refunds return to the original payment method within five business days. Quoting the exact time frame is useful here because the wording functions as a procedural requirement rather than a general summary.

Turn an example into your own writing

Keep the underlying decision or pattern, then replace the subject, evidence, relationship, constraints, and tone with details that belong to your situation. If your final line still works after swapping only one noun, it may be too close to the example.
