What to notice in the examples

Useful imperative sentences tell the reader exactly what action to take, use an appropriate level of politeness, and avoid hiding critical conditions inside long wording.

  • Begin with the action verb when direct instruction is appropriate.
  • Add the object, condition, or destination needed to complete the action.
  • Use please or a softening phrase when the context calls for courtesy rather than command.

Turn an example into your own writing

Keep the underlying decision or pattern, then replace the subject, evidence, relationship, constraints, and tone with details that belong to your situation. If your final line still works after swapping only one noun, it may be too close to the example.
