8 Informational Writing Examples

Use these examples to study structure, specificity, tone, and variation. They are demonstrations—not claims about a real person or organization unless the example itself makes that explicit.

What to notice in the examples

Useful informational writing is scoped to a clear reader need, distinguishes fact from interpretation, groups related information logically, cites or verifies important claims when appropriate, and makes the most useful information easy to find.

  • Reader need: what the audience wants to know or decide.
  • Scope: what the piece covers and what it intentionally leaves out.
  • Information groups organized by question, category, chronology, or importance.
  • Source, date, or qualification details wherever accuracy depends on context.
1

A campus housing guide can organize information by eligibility, cost, application timing, room types, and move-in requirements instead of narrating the history of the residence system.

2

An informational article about electric bicycles can distinguish motor classes, typical range, charging, local legal categories, maintenance, and use cases without claiming one model is best for everyone.

3

A patient-facing clinic page can explain appointment preparation, arrival time, documents, payment methods, and accessibility options while leaving diagnosis and treatment advice to clinicians.

4

A company knowledge-base article about account permissions can show each role, what it can access, and who can change it rather than describing the software menu screen by screen.

5

An informational essay about coral bleaching can explain temperature stress, symbiotic algae, recovery conditions, and repeated exposure before discussing policy implications.

6

A scholarship information page can separate eligibility, required materials, deadline, selection criteria, award amount, and renewal rules.

7

A product-comparison explainer can list dimensions such as storage, battery life, software support, and repairability without turning the page into a sales pitch.

8

An event information page can lead with date, location, audience, schedule, accessibility, and registration details rather than promotional language.

Turn an example into your own writing

Keep the underlying decision or pattern, then replace the subject, evidence, relationship, constraints, and tone with details that belong to your situation. If your final line still works after swapping only one noun, it may be too close to the example.
