8 Networking Email Examples

Use these examples to study structure, specificity, tone, and variation. They are demonstrations—not claims about a real person or organization unless the example itself makes that explicit.

What to notice in the examples

A strong networking email shows why the recipient is relevant, demonstrates that the message is not mass-sent, respects their time, and asks for a modest action that fits the relationship.

  • Use a truthful point of connection.
  • Explain why you are contacting this particular person.
  • Keep background information brief and relevant.
  • Ask for one small next step, such as a short conversation or specific question.
1

I enjoyed your panel on public-sector UX at Design Week, especially the point about testing forms with frontline staff. I’m working on a similar accessibility project and wondered if you’d be open to a 15-minute conversation about recruiting participants.

2

Professor Lee suggested I contact you because I’m researching municipal archives and you recently digitized the East Ward collection. Could I ask two questions about how your team handled metadata inconsistencies?

3

We worked on different teams at Northbridge in 2023 but never met. I’m now moving into content operations and noticed you made a similar transition. Would you be open to sharing what skills mattered most in your first role?

4

I’ve followed your field notes on community mapping and recently used your consent checklist in a student project. If you have time, I’d value your view on one question about photographing private property boundaries.

5

I’m attending the Regional Publishing Forum next week and saw that you’re speaking on author newsletters. If you have a few minutes after the session, I’d enjoy introducing myself.

6

Your case study on multilingual onboarding addressed the same translation handoff issue my team is facing. Would you be willing to point me toward one resource you found especially useful?

7

We met briefly during the accessibility workshop in June. I appreciated your example about error-message testing and would be glad to compare notes if you are available for coffee next month.

8

I’m applying to the archival fellowship you completed last year. If you have 10–15 minutes, could I ask what part of the application you wish you had understood earlier?

Turn an example into your own writing

Keep the underlying decision or pattern, then replace the subject, evidence, relationship, constraints, and tone with details that belong to your situation. If your final line still works after swapping only one noun, it may be too close to the example.
