8 Prepositional Phrase Examples

Use these examples to study structure, specificity, tone, and variation. They are demonstrations—not claims about a real person or organization unless the example itself makes that explicit.

What to notice in the examples

Clear prepositional phrases add precise relationships of place, time, direction, method, cause, or association without piling up so many attachments that readers cannot tell what modifies what.

  • Identify the preposition and its object.
  • Determine which word or action the phrase modifies.
  • Keep ambiguous phrases close to the intended target.
  • Trim strings of stacked prepositional phrases when a stronger noun or verb can carry the meaning.

Keep the underlying decision or pattern, then replace the subject, evidence, relationship, constraints, and tone with details that belong to your situation. If your final line still works after swapping only one noun, it may be too close to the example.
