Addition: The first study shows that reminders increase initial participation. More importantly, the follow-up data suggest that reminder timing also affects whether participants return.
8 Transition Words for Paragraphs Examples
Use these examples to study structure, specificity, tone, and variation. They are demonstrations—not claims about a real person or organization unless the example itself makes that explicit.
What to notice in the examples
A strong paragraph transition names the actual relationship between ideas—addition, contrast, cause, qualification, example, sequence, consequence, or return—without forcing a connector where the order and repeated key terms already make the relationship clear.
- Identify what the previous paragraph established.
- Identify the new paragraph’s distinct job.
- Name the logical relationship between those two jobs.
- Choose a connector, bridge sentence, or repeated key term that expresses that relationship.
- Place the transition where it helps orientation without delaying the new paragraph’s main claim.
Contrast: Remote work can reduce commuting time and widen hiring access. However, those benefits do not remove the need for deliberate documentation when teams work asynchronously.
Qualification: The policy reduced average wait times across the system. That overall improvement, however, was smaller in neighborhoods with fewer connecting routes.
Cause and effect: The archive standardized file names in 2024. As a result, duplicate records became easier to detect during later audits.
Example bridge: Several design choices can lower form completion. One common example is asking users for information before explaining why it is needed.
Sequence: The first phase identifies the research question and inclusion criteria. Once those are fixed, the review can move to source screening and extraction.
Return to thesis: These methodological differences explain why the studies report different effect sizes. They also support the broader argument that measurement choice changes what the evidence can establish.
No explicit connector: Public libraries increasingly provide digital-access help. Staff assistance with online forms, device use, and account recovery is now part of everyday service in many branches. The repeated subject creates enough continuity without adding furthermore.
Keep the underlying decision or pattern, then replace the subject, evidence, relationship, constraints, and tone with details that belong to your situation. If your final line still works after swapping only one noun, it may be too close to the example.
