Proxy blocking Internet in Windows 11: verify whether the proxy is intentional first
A manual proxy or setup script can be required by work/school networks, so distinguish stale configuration from managed policy before disabling it.
- Open Settings > Network & internet > Proxy and record what is enabled.
- If this is a managed work/school PC, check whether the proxy is organization-required before changing it.
- Compare another browser and a non-browser app if possible.
- Test the same network without a VPN only when policy allows.
What this problem usually means
Microsoft documents Windows proxy configuration as a separate layer above Wi-Fi or Ethernet. A proxy can be automatic, script-based or manual, and organizations may require it. That means “turn off proxy” is safe only after confirming it is not intentional or managed.
