Pacing Template 1
Compression cue: Over the next [time period], [summary of repeated/routine events] until [meaningful change].
Start with structure, then replace every placeholder with information that is true, relevant, and natural for your context. These templates are intentionally skeletal so your final writing does not sound mass-produced.
Effective pacing matches narrative time to importance. High-pressure moments may use focused action and shorter units, while emotionally significant or complex moments may slow down for perception, consequence, and choice.
Compression cue: Over the next [time period], [summary of repeated/routine events] until [meaningful change].
Expansion cue: Slow down when [decision/reveal/consequence] changes what the character wants or understands.
Fast sequence: [short action sentence]. [short consequence]. [new obstacle].
Aftermath beat: After [high-intensity event], give the viewpoint character [specific sensory/emotional consequence] before the next objective.
