24 Research Paper Templates

Start with structure, then replace every placeholder with information that is true, relevant, and natural for your context. These templates are intentionally skeletal so your final writing does not sound mass-produced.

How to personalize a template

A strong research paper has a manageable question, a defensible thesis or purpose, source choices suited to the claim, clear distinction between evidence and interpretation, and a structure that helps readers follow the reasoning.

  1. 1
Choose the template closest to your actual purpose.
  2. 2
Replace every bracketed field with specific information.
  3. 3
Delete any sentence that does not belong in your situation.
  4. 4
Read the result aloud for unnatural transitions or repeated phrasing.
  5. 5
Verify names, dates, links, facts, and promises before sending or publishing.
Research Paper Template 1
Research question: [specific question]?
Working claim: [current answer].
Section 1: [necessary background].
Section 2: [evidence/pattern 1].
Section 3: [evidence/pattern 2 or counterevidence].
Section 4: [interpretation/limits].
Conclusion: [answer + implication].
Research Paper Template 2
Evidence paragraph: [Claim]. [Source/evidence] shows [specific result]. This matters because [interpretation]. [Second source] supports/qualifies the pattern by [comparison]. Therefore, [bounded conclusion].
Research Paper Template 3
Source matrix columns: Citation | Research question | Method | Sample/data | Main finding | Limitation | Useful quotation/page | Section where used.
Research Paper Template 4
Revision pass: Does every section answer the research question? Are claims stronger than the evidence allows? Are source summaries connected to an interpretation? Are quotations introduced and explained?
