Suspense Template 1
Outcome + uncertainty: If [event] happens, [consequence]. The character cannot know/control [uncertain factor].
Start with structure, then replace every placeholder with information that is true, relevant, and natural for your context. These templates are intentionally skeletal so your final writing does not sound mass-produced.
Effective suspense gives readers enough information to care and predict possibilities but withholds certainty; pressure rises through narrowing options, deadlines, vulnerability, and meaningful consequences rather than vagueness alone.
Outcome + uncertainty: If [event] happens, [consequence]. The character cannot know/control [uncertain factor].
Dramatic irony: The reader knows [danger/information], while [character] believes [different assumption].
Deadline: [Goal] must happen before [time/event], but [constraint] blocks the direct path.
Narrowing options: After [choice], [safe option] disappears, leaving [riskier alternatives].
