Tension Template 1
Tension equation: [important goal/value] + [credible threat] + [uncertainty] + [time/constraint].
Start with structure, then replace every placeholder with information that is true, relevant, and natural for your context. These templates are intentionally skeletal so your final writing does not sound mass-produced.
Effective tension comes from clear stakes plus uncertainty, not constant crisis: writers control information, deadlines, competing goals, vulnerability, promises, and pacing so readers can anticipate consequences without knowing the exact outcome.
Tension equation: [important goal/value] + [credible threat] + [uncertainty] + [time/constraint].
Information gap: Reader knows [fact]; character knows [different fact]; collision becomes likely when [event].
Choice tension: Character must choose [A] or [B]; A costs [cost], B costs [different cost].
Escalation ladder: concern → evidence of threat → narrowing options → forced choice → payoff.
