Reusable frameworks

4 Theoretical Framework Templates

Start with structure, then replace every placeholder with information that is true, relevant, and natural for your context. These templates are intentionally skeletal so your final writing does not sound mass-produced.

How to personalize a template

A strong theoretical framework does more than summarize a theory: it explains why that theory fits the problem, maps its constructs to the study, acknowledges limits, and shows how the theory shapes questions, measures, analysis, or interpretation.

  1. 1
Choose the template closest to your actual purpose.
  2. 2
Replace every bracketed field with specific information.
  3. 3
Delete any sentence that does not belong in your situation.
  4. 4
Read the result aloud for unnatural transitions or repeated phrasing.
  5. 5
Verify names, dates, links, facts, and promises before sending or publishing.
Theoretical Framework Template 1
Theory application: [Theory] is appropriate because the study asks [question]. Its construct [construct] maps to [variable/data], while [construct] maps to [variable/data].
Theoretical Framework Template 2
Framework paragraph: The theory predicts [mechanism]. In this study, that mechanism is examined through [measure/analysis], with the limitation that [boundary].
Theoretical Framework Template 3
Construct map: Theory construct | study definition | evidence/measure | expected relationship.
Theoretical Framework Template 4
Discussion bridge: Finding [result] is consistent/in tension with [theoretical expectation] because [specific mechanism], though [design limit] prevents [overclaim].
