Frame Narrative Template 1
Outer frame: [who is telling/reading/listening + present goal]. Inner story: [embedded narrative]. Relationship: [why the frame changes interpretation].
Start with structure, then replace every placeholder with information that is true, relevant, and natural for your context. These templates are intentionally skeletal so your final writing does not sound mass-produced.
An effective frame changes how the inner story is interpreted: it can create distance, uncertainty, commentary, contrast, chronology, or questions about who controls the telling, rather than existing as an unnecessary opening and closing wrapper.
Outer frame: [who is telling/reading/listening + present goal]. Inner story: [embedded narrative]. Relationship: [why the frame changes interpretation].
Document frame: [character] discovers [letters/diary/report]. Each section reveals [inner events] while the present-day frame tracks [consequence/question].
Storytelling frame: During [outer situation], [speaker] tells [inner story] to [audience] because [motive]. Interruptions reveal [tension/reliability].
Analysis: The frame narrative places [inner story] inside [outer context], which makes readers evaluate [reliability/theme/time/memory] through both levels.
