Beat chain: [event] → [interpretation] → [choice] → [consequence].
Start with structure, then replace every placeholder with information that is true, relevant, and natural for your context. These templates are intentionally skeletal so your final writing does not sound mass-produced.
Strong beats are specific enough to change what a character knows, wants, feels, risks, or decides; a sequence of beats creates momentum when each one meaningfully affects the next.
Beat chain: [event] → [interpretation] → [choice] → [consequence].
Dialogue beat: [line] changes [belief/control/goal], prompting [response].
Discovery beat: [clue] appears ordinary until [detail] reveals [new meaning].
Ending beat: The scene closes when [character] decides [new objective], creating [next pressure].
