Eulogy Examples & Writing Frameworks

How to use this section

Choose wording by fit, not by keyword count

Choose a portrait, not a biography

Two or three qualities and a small number of stories are easier to hear than a chronology of every life event.

Write for speaking

Short paragraphs, natural language, and marked pauses help when emotion interrupts.

Stay truthful

A respectful eulogy does not require pretending every relationship was perfect.

Editorial guidance

A eulogy is a spoken portrait, not a complete biography

Listeners can follow a small number of clear ideas more easily than a long chronology. Choose two or three qualities, then find stories that allow those qualities to be seen rather than merely listed.

Ordinary details often work better than grand claims. A repeated joke, a way of welcoming people, a stubborn habit, a recipe, a route, or a small act of care can reveal a person more vividly than a catalogue of milestones.

Write for the room. Short paragraphs, clear transitions, and natural language make the speech easier to deliver when emotion changes your pace or concentration.

Respect does not require false perfection. If the relationship was complicated, choose truthful material that can be shared publicly without turning the service into a disclosure of private conflict.

Quality check before you use a template

Is it true? Is it appropriate to the relationship? Is it private enough for the channel? Does it reduce rather than add pressure? Can you replace one generic phrase with one real detail?
