Home was never only walls.
It was your voice
from another room,
the small decisions
we stopped having to explain,
the way two lives
learned each other’s rhythm.

Now the rooms are the same,
and not the same at all.

What we made together
was more than plans fulfilled.
It was the ordinary work
of knowing and being known.

I carry that work forward:
not as a finished chapter,
but as a language
my life still speaks.

This collection centers partnership, being known, household rhythm and the way a shared life shapes the surviving person. That focus is deliberate: relationship-specific verse should do more than replace “mother” with “father” or “dog” with “cat.” The imagery, emotional distance and details should change with the relationship itself.
