HDFC BankHDFC Bank Transfers — NEFT, RTGS & IMPS

HDFC customers who use NetBanking/MobileBanking and need to understand why a ₹50 lakh TPT ceiling does not mean the same amount, timing or beneficiary state for NEFT, RTGS and IMPS.

Cost / pricing
Online NEFT and RTGS are free for the reviewed eligible retail categories. Branch NEFT charges effective 1 August 2025 run ₹2/₹4/₹14/₹24 by amount slab plus GST; branch RTGS is ₹20 for ₹2–5 lakh and ₹45 above ₹5 lakh plus GST. IMPS pricing should be checked on the current HDFC schedule.

Axis BankAxis Bank Transfers — NEFT, RTGS & IMPS

Axis customers who want reliable rail mechanics and the bank's current ₹5 lakh IMPS transaction ceiling without turning product/scheme-specific or migrated-Citi limits into universal Axis rules.

Cost / pricing
Axis's current remittance form states that charges and taxes apply as applicable. Because retail account variants and premium programmes can waive or alter NEFT/RTGS/IMPS charges, v1.38 does not publish one universal Axis tariff from a product-specific schedule.

HDFC Bank Transfers — NEFT, RTGS & IMPS

NEFT
Online 24x7 in RBI batches. 7 AM–7 PM on RBI working days: daily amount follows TPT, up to ₹50 lakh. Outside those hours and on holidays: ₹2 lakh per transaction, with multiple transfers allowed within the TPT ceiling.
RTGS
Minimum ₹2 lakh. Branch has no HDFC upper ceiling stated on the reviewed page; NetBanking daily transfer follows TPT up to ₹50 lakh. HDFC advertises 24x7 RTGS except 11:30 PM–12:30 AM due to its cut-off.
IMPS
Account+IFSC: up to ₹5 lakh per transaction after the first-day beneficiary restriction, with daily amount governed by TPT. MMID-based transfers use a much lower ₹5,000-per-day Customer ID limit in reviewed HDFC material.

Axis Bank Transfers — NEFT, RTGS & IMPS

NEFT
RBI NEFT has no system floor/ceiling and operates 24x7 in half-hourly batches. Axis's current form permits cash NEFT up to ₹49,999 and requires photo ID for non-customer cash remittance; account/channel limits still apply for digital use.
RTGS
RBI minimum ₹2 lakh, 24x7 real-time settlement and no RBI maximum. Axis's current bank form does not publish one universal retail digital maximum, so product/account scheme limits remain controlling.
IMPS
Axis's May 2025-version remittance form states up to ₹5 lakh per IMPS transaction, subject to the per-day transfer limit for the account holder's Axis scheme code. Pending IMPS can transfer or revert within T+2 days.
02Is the beneficiary ready for the required amount?Check beneficiary activation and temporary cooling conditions before relying on a transfer ceiling.

HDFC Bank Transfers — NEFT, RTGS & IMPS

Beneficiary controls
Other-bank beneficiary activation takes about 30 minutes. Maximum four payment modes/payees can be added in 24 hours under the reviewed transfer guidance.
Security cooling
New beneficiary: ₹50,000 total during first 24 hours for applicable transfers. RTGS is separately blocked until 24 hours have passed after beneficiary addition. Mobile-device registration can create additional app-specific restrictions that remain in the digital-banking profile.

Axis Bank Transfers — NEFT, RTGS & IMPS

Beneficiary controls
Generic bankwide current beneficiary waiting/first-day figures were not established by the reviewed primary remittance form. Migration-specific Citi-to-Axis material is retained as scoped evidence, not generalized.
Security cooling
No universal bankwide cooling amount is asserted from the current generic form. Where a customer's specific Axis app/account migration journey displays a temporary limit, that live scoped control overrides the generic profile.
03What charges and failure handling apply?Keep channel charges and the recorded reversal or recovery route attached to the transfer.

HDFC Bank Transfers — NEFT, RTGS & IMPS

Charges
Online NEFT and RTGS are nil for the reviewed retail categories. From 1 August 2025 branch NEFT is ₹2/₹4/₹14/₹24 + GST by slab; branch RTGS ₹20 (₹2–5L) or ₹45 (>₹5L) + GST. IMPS follows the current bank tariff.
Failure / reversal
For pending IMPS, HDFC asks customers to allow up to two days for beneficiary credit or reversal under the cited guidance before escalation with the RRN and transaction details.

Axis Bank Transfers — NEFT, RTGS & IMPS

Charges
Charges/taxes are 'as applicable' on the current remittance form and can vary by account programme. The engine avoids taking a fee waiver from one premium/current-account tariff and presenting it as an Axis-wide retail price.
Failure / reversal
Current Axis form states a pending IMPS may be transferred or reverted within T+2 days. Returned NEFT and error/delay responsibility follows the bank/RBI transaction conditions.

Eligible account / channelRequires an eligible HDFC Bank account and Third Party Transfer rights; the underlying account and customer-set TPT limit remain controlling.Requires sufficient funds and an eligible Axis account/channel. The current form explicitly makes IMPS daily capacity subject to the account holder's scheme-code transfer limit.
NEFT / RTGS / IMPS coverage24x7 NEFT, RTGS and IMPS are available through digital channels, with separate branch transfer routes and a unified beneficiary setup for transfers to other banks.Axis supports NEFT, RTGS and IMPS through its banking channels; the current branch/remittance form also supports cash NEFT up to ₹49,999 for eligible remitters.
Rail / channel limitsTPT can be set up to ₹50 lakh/day. NEFT from 7 PM–7 AM and on holidays is limited to ₹2 lakh per transaction (multiple transactions can be made within TPT, up to ₹50 lakh). IMPS Account+IFSC is ₹5 lakh per transaction and daily amount follows TPT. Transfer access / eligibilityEligible HDFC Bank customers with NetBanking/MobileBanking and Third Party Transfer facilities enabled; account, residency and product restrictions can narrow access.Axis account holders and eligible remitters using supported branch/digital routes, subject to account scheme, KYC and transaction rights. Non-customer cash NEFT has separate ID requirements.
Rail / beneficiary relationshipBeneficiary activation and first-24-hour restrictions sit below the headline TPT limit. RTGS is even stricter for a newly added beneficiary and is available only after the first 24 hours.Axis's per-day limit can be account-scheme-specific. The engine therefore refuses to reuse a premium-account unlimited/free allowance or a migrated-Citi cooling rule as a bankwide retail default.

Wrong-fit risks

A useful comparison shows what can make either option unsuitable instead of averaging those conditions into a score.

HDFC Bank

HDFC Bank Transfers — NEFT, RTGS & IMPS

  • A newly added other-bank beneficiary takes about 30 minutes to activate and is limited to ₹50,000 total in the first 24 hours for applicable transfers; HDFC's RTGS page separately says RTGS is possible only after 24 hours of beneficiary addition.
  • NEFT is 24x7, but HDFC applies a ₹2 lakh per-transaction limit outside 7 AM–7 PM on working days and on holidays even when the customer's TPT limit is higher.
  • HDFC's RTGS page states 24x7 availability except an 11:30 PM–12:30 AM bank cut-off window, which is a channel implementation detail rather than an RBI RTGS-system limitation.
Axis Bank

Axis Bank Transfers — NEFT, RTGS & IMPS

  • Axis's current NEFT/RTGS/IMPS form confirms ₹5 lakh per IMPS transaction but explicitly defers the daily ceiling to the account's scheme code.
  • Cash NEFT is allowed only up to ₹49,999 on the reviewed form and non-customers must provide photo ID.
  • Axis has first-party migration documentation describing temporary new-payee limits for migrated Citi relationships; v1.38 labels that evidence as migration-scoped and does not generalize it to all Axis retail customers.
