Decision checkpoints

Answer the questions that can actually change the choice.

Each checkpoint reproduces the recorded product fields instead of assigning a winner. Read the condition, scope and missing-data state before treating a difference as useful to you.

01Can your account and device use this UPI service?Check the funding relationship and registration conditions for the named service.

ICICI Bank UPI — iMobile

Eligible funding source
Requires an eligible linked bank account for account-funded UPI. UPI Lite is loaded from the linked savings account and cannot be topped up using a debit or credit card under the current ICICI FAQ.
Registration
Link the eligible bank account in iMobile and complete the mobile/account verification plus UPI PIN setup. UPI Lite is separately enabled by selecting the bank account, adding value and authenticating setup with the UPI PIN.

Federal Bank UPI — FedMobile & Supported UPI Apps

Eligible funding source
Requires an eligible UPI-linked bank account for account-funded UPI. Federal Bank has also extended UPI access to eligible sole-proprietorship current accounts through supported third-party UPI apps.
Registration
Registration follows the supported UPI app/remitter-bank account and registered-mobile verification flow. Exact PSP screens can differ, so one app’s UX is not universalized.
02Does your payment fit both normal and temporary limits?Check ordinary limits alongside new-user, device or security cooling restrictions.

ICICI Bank UPI — iMobile

Standard limits
ICICI’s NRI UPI page currently states ₹1 lakh/day for its international-mobile UPI flow. The engine does not convert that NRI statement into a universal resident iMobile cap where the reviewed resident FAQ does not give an equally scoped single figure.
Security cooling
Current NRI/international-mobile ICICI UPI guidance states ₹5,000 for the first 24 hours on Android and 72 hours on iOS after creation of a new UPI ID/VPA; this is stored as NRI-flow evidence, not generalized beyond its source scope.

Federal Bank UPI — FedMobile & Supported UPI Apps

Standard limits
No single Federal-specific ordinary daily UPI number is published here from the reviewed current evidence. Use the live remitter-bank/app risk control and the applicable NPCI use-case ceiling.
Security cooling
No universal Federal post-registration/device-change UPI cooling amount is asserted from the reviewed source set; users should follow the live app/bank restriction shown during registration or re-registration.
03What are the payment costs and recovery conditions?Review costs and the failure or recovery route for the intended payment.

ICICI Bank UPI — iMobile

Payment / channel cost
No separate consumer fee is modeled for ordinary iMobile UPI from the reviewed FAQ. Underlying account/card/service charges, international mobile/SMS/data costs and separate payment products remain governed by their own terms.
Failure / recovery
On device change, ICICI instructs users to close the existing UPI Lite account so its balance is transferred back to the linked bank account before opening Lite on the new device; failed Lite debits have a documented refund/support path.

Federal Bank UPI — FedMobile & Supported UPI Apps

Payment / channel cost
No separate ordinary UPI subscription fee is modeled from the reviewed Federal evidence; account/card/app and other payment-service charges remain separate.
Failure / recovery
Because app and remitter bank can be different participants, disputes/re-registration should be followed through the relevant UPI app and Federal Bank support path; no unsupported single recovery route is invented.

Its FY2024-25 report describes Lite payments up to ₹1,000 without UPI PIN.
UPI / security limitsICICI’s current UPI material states ordinary UPI limits can be account/use-case specific; its NRI UPI guidance states ₹1 lakh/day and ₹5,000 initial cooling for a newly created UPI/VPA on supported international-mobile flows. UPI Lite is documented separately at ₹1,000 per payment, ₹10,000 cumulative usage/day and ₹5,000 maximum Lite balance. The engine does not publish a single Federal Bank ordinary UPI daily ceiling from the reviewed current material because it is not documented there with sufficient scope. Current NPCI use-case ceilings and any lower live bank/app risk limit therefore remain controlling.
Registration eligibilityEligible ICICI Bank customers using iMobile and a supported linked account/mobile setup. NRI international-mobile UPI applies to the bank’s listed NRO-account/country flow and is not silently generalized to every resident account.Eligible Federal Bank account holders using FedMobile or a supported UPI app, subject to the account constitution, registered mobile/device and app/bank eligibility.

RuPay credit-card UPIEligible RuPay credit-card UPI should be evaluated as a separate card-funded merchant-payment state. NPCI prohibits P2P/P2PM/card-to-card/cash-withdrawal flows for linked RuPay credit cards and applies the lowest issuer-risk/card/customer limit.Federal offers RuPay credit-card products that can participate in UPI where eligible; NPCI rules keep linked-credit-card UPI merchant-oriented and limited by the lowest card/issuer-risk/customer-set limit.
AutoPay / mandatesICICI’s UPI Lite explicitly excludes AutoPay; recurring UPI therefore remains an ordinary UPI AutoPay mandate layer with separate authorization/control rules.UPI AutoPay follows the recurring e-mandate layer with pause/revoke/modify controls; no Federal-specific mandate ceiling is substituted for the NPCI/use-case rules without explicit bank evidence.
Failure / recoveryOn device change, ICICI instructs users to close the existing UPI Lite account so its balance is transferred back to the linked bank account before opening Lite on the new device; failed Lite debits have a documented refund/support path.Because app and remitter bank can be different participants, disputes/re-registration should be followed through the relevant UPI app and Federal Bank support path; no unsupported single recovery route is invented.
Wrong-fit risks

Keep each product’s cautions beside the product.

A useful comparison shows what can make either option unsuitable instead of averaging those conditions into a score.

ICICI Bank

ICICI Bank UPI — iMobile

  • The ₹5,000 first-registration cooling rule cited by ICICI is explicitly documented in its NRI/international-mobile UPI flow; the engine does not automatically claim the identical duration for every resident iMobile registration path without matching evidence.
  • UPI Lite cannot be used for UPI International, AutoPay or Collect requests in ICICI’s current FAQ.
  • Changing device should be handled by closing the old UPI Lite account first so the balance returns to the bank account before creating Lite on the new device.
Federal Bank

Federal Bank UPI — FedMobile & Supported UPI Apps

  • Older Federal UPI Lite announcements show historical lower numeric limits; the current RBI/NPCI framework and Federal FY2024-25 reporting support ₹1,000 small-value Lite payments, so stale launch-era limits are not reused.
  • No clean current Federal-specific ordinary UPI daily ceiling is hard-coded in this wave; the live app/bank rule should be verified before a high-value transfer.
  • UPI Circle lets a primary user delegate payment authority to a secondary user; it does not make the secondary user an owner of the primary bank account.
