International debit-card capability matrix

Compare what must be enabled before comparing a headline forex percentage.

International capability, card-control state, overseas ATM pricing and POS/e-commerce use remain tied to the exact debit-card variant. Credit-card and forex-prepaid pricing never fills a debit-card evidence gap.

Research matrix: Bank profile; Activation / channels; ATM / POS / e-commerce
Bank profileActivation / channelsATM / POS / e-commerce
AU Small Finance Bank International Debit Card & Overseas ATM BankingAU states online, contactless and international transactions are disabled by default on new debit cards. In AU 0101/NetBanking, customers can switch on International Usage and independently enable/disable ATM, POS, Online and Contactless, confirmed by OTP; website controls are also available. International ATM, POS, online/e-commerce and contactless controls are granular in AU 0101. Limits can be adjusted per channel up to the maximum allowed for the exact card variant.AU's current service-fee page publishes ₹150 per financial and ₹25 per non-financial overseas ATM transaction for many mainstream Visa/Gold/Platinum/Royale schedules; some premium/NRI/domestic-only products differ, including ₹100 or NA examples. ATM/acquirer surcharges can be additional. Eligible cards support international POS and e-commerce after international usage/channel activation. AU's low-cross-currency guidance says reduced markup requires transacting in foreign/local currency rather than selecting INR through DCC.
Axis Bank International Debit Card & Overseas ATM BankingCard-not-present domestic/international and card-present international transactions can be enabled/disabled through Mobile App, Internet Banking, Call Centre or branch; current account application material also points to Internet Banking/Mobile App/Call Centre for international activation/deactivation. Controls cover card-not-present domestic/international and card-present international usage, with cumulative Online/POS/Contactless limits where specified by the bank's debit-card setup.Current fee schedule: ₹125 per international ATM cash withdrawal and ₹25 per international balance enquiry, plus the applicable 3.5% + GST cross-currency markup on international cash withdrawal. A foreign ATM operator can impose an additional fee. Eligible international debit cards work across supported Visa/Mastercard/RuPay ATM/POS networks and enabled card-not-present channels. International purchase transactions carry the current cross-currency treatment when processed in foreign currency.
Bank of Baroda International Debit Card & Overseas ATM BankingAt issue/reissue/renewal, cards are initially enabled for contact-based domestic ATM/POS. International/Online/Contactless use can be switched on through bob World App, bob World Internet, Bank of Baroda ATM or IVR; Green PIN/first-use activation requirements also apply. bob World and bob World Internet expose card management for International usage, Online usage and daily ATM/POS/e-commerce limits; ATM/IVR provide additional channel-management routes.Current service-charge page publishes ₹250 per international ATM cash withdrawal for Classic and ₹450 for Platinum, plus ₹30 balance enquiry. Other variant/operator/network costs are not inferred from those two rows. International POS/e-commerce is available only on eligible international variants after the relevant controls are enabled. Current product pages publish card-specific ATM and POS/e-commerce maxima.
Canara Bank International Debit Card & Overseas ATM BankingGlobal usage is blocked by default and can be enabled through Mobile Banking, Internet Banking or the base branch under the reviewed policy/current product material. Eligible cards support ATM cash withdrawal, POS and e-commerce, with channel enable/disable and limit setting through digital banking or branch according to the current variant feature material.Eligible international debit variants support ATM use subject to card/network/acquirer availability, but the reviewed current debit-card service-charge section does not provide one universal Canara overseas-ATM fixed fee. The engine does not copy prepaid-travel-card ATM prices into debit cards. Eligible Canara debit cards support international POS/e-commerce after global usage activation. Current daily maximums depend on card variant rather than one global bank ceiling.
Federal Bank International Debit Card & Overseas ATM BankingFederal Bank says customers can enable/disable Online, Contactless and International debit-card usage through FedMobile Card Management, IVR, Federal Bank ATM or branch. International debit usage can cover ATM, POS/e-commerce and contactless according to card/network support, with online/contactless/international states customer-controlled through supported channels.Service charges effective 1 June 2025 publish ₹125 for an international ATM financial transaction and ₹25 for non-financial. Celesta cards for qualifying Celesta scheme holders are explicitly exempted from the bank's international ATM transaction charge; acquirer fees may still be extra. Eligible debit cards support international merchant/online use after applicable controls are enabled, subject to card limit, available balance, merchant/network acceptance and scheme terms.
HDFC Bank International Debit Card & Overseas ATM BankingOnline, contactless and international debit-card functionality can be disabled by default/inactivity. HDFC allows re-enabling and limit changes through NetBanking and other supported card-control channels including MobileBanking/MyCards/IVR routes described in current bank material. Card controls separate international ATM, POS, online/e-commerce and contactless usage, with daily domestic and international usage/limit settings.Reviewed key-fact sheet lists, for the stated non-managed segment, ₹25 + taxes per international ATM balance enquiry and ₹125 + taxes per international ATM cash withdrawal plus the applicable cross-currency markup. Eligible international debit cards can be enabled for overseas POS and online use. Current maximum daily shopping limits are card-variant specific and are expressed as combined domestic + international ceilings.
ICICI Bank International Debit Card & Overseas ATM BankingThe reviewed ICICI travel-use page says International is off by default. In iMobile or Internet Banking, select the debit card, open Transaction Settings, enable International for Online and/or Merchant Outlet, and set the transaction limit. International card settings distinguish Online and Merchant Outlet access; ATM usage is supported on eligible international debit cards and governed by the card/account and overseas ATM network.Current schedule: ₹25 balance enquiry outside India; cash withdrawal outside India ₹125 + 3.5% currency-conversion charges, with applicable GST. The overseas ATM owner can also impose its own access limit/charge. International POS/e-commerce is available after enabling the relevant international card flags. Foreign-currency debit-card transactions are subject to the published markup; DCC applies when the transaction is denominated in INR under the bank's DCC definition.
IDFC FIRST Bank International Debit Card & Overseas ATM BankingIDFC FIRST Mobile Banking and Internet Banking explicitly let users enable/disable international debit-card usage and set domestic/international daily withdrawal and purchase limits within preset limits; card activation can also use supported bank channels. Eligible debit cards support international ATM and purchase transactions, with international enablement and purchase/withdrawal limits controlled through Mobile/Internet Banking.Current Silver Plus Visa Platinum schedule: ₹125 cash withdrawal and ₹25 balance enquiry internationally. Qualifying zero-fee/premium programmes can waive fixed service charges, so the exact account/card schedule controls rather than this reference figure becoming bankwide. International card purchase access is governed by the card's enabled international usage and purchase limit; the current zero-fee savings proposition distinguishes service-charge waivers from continuing forex markup.
IndusInd Bank International Debit Card & Overseas ATM BankingIndusInd says newly issued debit cards are domestic POS/ATM only by default. International ATM/POS/ECOM/NFC and related transaction states can be enabled/disabled through IndusMobile, IndusNet, IndusInd ATM, phone banking or branch, with limits configurable through supported channels. The card-control system distinguishes International POS, ATM, ECOM, NFC/contactless and tokenisation; MOTO/standing-instruction contexts are also treated separately where available.Current Indus Green/current-account schedules publish ₹125 cash withdrawal outside India and ₹20 balance enquiry as account/card references. Exact debit-card/account schedule remains controlling, and foreign ATM operators may levy additional charges. Eligible cards support international POS/e-commerce when the respective channels are enabled. Foreign POS may or may not require a PIN, and international e-commerce may or may not use an OTP depending on the overseas merchant/network flow.
Kotak Mahindra Bank International Debit Card & Overseas ATM BankingKotak's current Cross Border help page lets customers check or enable International Usage in Mobile Banking under Service Requests → Debit Card → Card Control → International/Domestic Controls; Net Banking is also supported. Enabling itself is stated as free. International ATM, POS/in-store and online/e-commerce use are supported on eligible debit cards, with domestic/international control state managed separately through supported digital card controls. Many current Kotak savings schedules publish ₹150 per international cash withdrawal and ₹25 per international non-financial transaction; exact programme/card schedule controls, and premium variants can have different or nil bank charges. Foreign ATM/acquirer fees can still be extra. Eligible cards can be used internationally at merchants/online after international use is enabled, subject to the card's own channel and amount settings plus network/merchant acceptance.
SBI International Debit Card & Overseas ATM BankingNew/replacement/renewal debit cards are enabled initially for domestic ATM/POS use; international usage and channels can be switched on/off through YONO SBI, YONO Lite, Internet Banking, SBI ATM, IVR or branch according to the reviewed security material. International controls are separated by ATM, POS, e-commerce and contactless/NFC, with domestic versus international usage and customer-set limits managed independently where supported.Global International Debit Card supports worldwide ATM withdrawal; cash limit varies by ATM/country subject to a maximum foreign-currency equivalent of ₹40,000/day. Reviewed SBI tariff: balance enquiry ₹25 + GST; cash withdrawal ₹100 minimum + 3.5% of transaction amount + GST. Global International Debit Card supports overseas POS and selected international online use; POS varies by country up to ₹75,000/day equivalent, while international online is capped at ₹50,000 per transaction and per month on selected supported websites. Reviewed tariff lists 3% of transaction amount + GST for international POS/e-commerce.
YES BANK International Debit Card & Overseas ATM BankingYES BANK states new debit cards are initially enabled for domestic ATM/merchant use; international usage and limits can be activated via IRIS, NetBanking/YES Online or customer care. Card-level limits are manageable through digital channels up to product limits. Supported international channels include ATM, POS and e-commerce; the bank's security guidance treats domestic e-commerce/contactless and international ATM/POS/e-commerce/contactless as separately controlled states on new cards.Current retail examples such as YES EXPLORE, ENGAGE, APEX and Premia publish ₹175 cash withdrawal and ₹20 balance enquiry; certain other schedules/products publish different fees, including ₹150 business examples and older/NRI variants. Exact card/account schedule controls. International retail and online usage is available after enablement, subject to the exact card's limits and network/merchant support. Premium variants may pair this with zero cross-currency markup.
Forex, DCC & overseas-control matrix

Do not collapse four different costs into one “international fee”.

The bank's fixed overseas-ATM charge, foreign ATM owner surcharge, foreign-currency markup and DCC fee can all be distinct. Unknown or conflicting current values stay visible instead of being replaced with another card product's tariff.

Research matrix: Bank; Forex / DCC; Limits / regulatory / conflict
BankForex / DCCLimits / regulatory / conflict
AU Small Finance Bank International Debit Card & Overseas ATM BankingVariant-specific. AU's current low-cross-currency page lists general AU Debit/AU Business Debit at 3.5%; AU Royale is currently marketed at 2.5%, special CA/CS programmes at 1.5%, and AU Eternity at 0.90%. The service-fee table also contains qualifying 0% card/programme rows. AU's July 2026 DCC guidance describes DCC as a merchant/terminal-provider service with a merchant-set exchange rate and recommends paying in local currency. Its low-cross-currency page gives an indicative DCC range that varies by merchant/location; the engine therefore does not record that range as a fixed AU bank debit-card fee.Customers can set ATM/POS/Online/Contactless limits through AU 0101/NetBanking up to the card variant's maximum. No one international amount is generalized across AU Gold, Platinum, Royale, Eternity, business and NRI cards. International usage remains subject to RBI/FEMA permissible-current-account rules and the card/network's country/merchant restrictions; channel activation alone is not foreign-exchange authorization. AU's current service-fee table legitimately contains different overseas ATM and cross-currency values across card/account programmes. The engine preserves those variants instead of selecting the cheapest or most common number as bankwide.
Axis Bank International Debit Card & Overseas ATM Banking3.5% + GST cross-currency markup for all international cash-withdrawal and purchase transactions in the reviewed debit-card fee schedule. 1% of transaction amount + GST when DCC converts an international POS/ATM transaction to the cardholder's home currency; Burgundy Private Debit Card is exempt from this bank DCC fee under the reviewed schedule.Default and customer-modified limits are card/account-specific. Online, POS and Contactless can operate as a cumulative limit rather than three independent ceilings under the reviewed Axis debit-card control wording. Axis terms subject international use to RBI/FEMA rules and state international debit access can be blocked for resident LRS-nature transactions after breach of the permissible PAN-level financial-year limit, then unblocked in the next financial year. The current fee schedule is internally clear on ₹125/₹25 ATM fees, 3.5% cross-currency and 1% DCC. Product/account MIDs or SOCs can override variant fees, so the engine avoids applying relationship-specific waivers universally.
Bank of Baroda International Debit Card & Overseas ATM BankingNo single current bankwide debit-card foreign-currency POS/e-commerce markup was confirmed in the reviewed Bank of Baroda debit-card/service-charge sources. The engine therefore leaves the amount unfilled rather than borrowing a credit/forex-card rate. No standalone current Bank of Baroda debit-card DCC surcharge was confirmed in the reviewed first-party debit-card sources. Merchant/network DCC should not be represented as a bank fee without specific evidence.Daily ATM and POS/e-commerce limits are configurable within the card's variant ceiling. Current VISA Sapphire reference limits are ₹3 lakh ATM/day and ₹5 lakh POS/e-commerce/day; other variants differ. International debit-card use remains subject to RBI/FEMA permissible-current-account rules and the card/network's country restrictions; channel enablement is not regulatory approval for prohibited transactions. Rather than choosing an unsupported generic international limit or markup, the engine uses current variant pages for limits, the service-charge page for explicitly scoped Classic/Platinum ATM fees and leaves unverified bankwide forex/DCC pricing blank.
Canara Bank International Debit Card & Overseas ATM BankingNo one universal ordinary-debit-card foreign-currency percentage was confirmed in the reviewed debit-card fee section. A note says only markup fee applies to international transactions on Virtual Debit Card, but the amount is not generalized; credit-card 'up to 3%' and prepaid-card 3% rates are deliberately excluded. No current standalone ordinary Canara debit-card DCC fee was confirmed in the reviewed sources, so the engine records DCC as not separately published rather than inferring it from another Canara card product.Current reference variants: Mastercard Platinum ₹1 lakh ATM/day and ₹5 lakh POS/e-commerce/day; Mastercard Standard ₹75,000 ATM/day and ₹2 lakh POS/e-commerce/day. Customer/channel controls remain bounded by the exact card variant. International debit-card use remains subject to current RBI/FEMA permissible-current-account rules. Global enablement is an operational card state, not permission for a prohibited foreign-exchange use. The fee page mixes separate credit-card, debit-card and prepaid-card schedules. The engine deliberately refuses to transfer the credit-card 'up to 3%' markup or prepaid-card 3% cross-currency figure into ordinary debit-card pricing without explicit debit-card evidence.
Federal Bank International Debit Card & Overseas ATM BankingFederal Bank's current schedule publishes 3.5% international transaction markup for both Visa/Mastercard debit cards and RuPay debit cards, before any product/scheme-specific concession or waiver that may be separately published. Current Federal schedule publishes Dynamic Currency Conversion Fee at 1% of the DCC transaction amount plus GST. It is stored separately from the 3.5% foreign-currency markup.Card product maxima and customer settings govern usable ATM/purchase amounts. International channel enablement is independent from the linked account's balance and applicable regulatory limit. International debit-card use remains limited to permissible RBI/FEMA current-account transactions; card availability does not override foreign-exchange restrictions. No conflicting numeric DCC or base international-ATM rate was normalized. Instead, explicit scheme exceptions such as Celesta's international-ATM exemption remain attached to that relationship.
HDFC Bank International Debit Card & Overseas ATM Banking3.5% + taxes on foreign-currency debit-card transactions in the reviewed key-fact sheet; Infiniti receives a preferential 0.99% cross-currency markup. Network wholesale exchange rate at transaction/merchant settlement is the stated conversion basis. With effect from February 2025, HDFC's debit-card key-fact sheet states a 1% + taxes DCC markup on transactions carried out in INR at an international location or at an India-located merchant registered overseas. DCC and FCY are classified by the network.Current post-31-August-2026 variant maxima include Infiniti ₹2 lakh ATM/₹10 lakh shopping, Platinum ₹1 lakh/₹5 lakh, Regular/Classic ₹25,000/₹2.5 lakh and Millennia ₹50,000/₹3.5 lakh daily, with customers able to hold lower self-set limits. International debit-card usage remains subject to RBI/FEMA permissible-current-account rules. HDFC card controls and variant maxima are operating controls, not permission to make a prohibited foreign-exchange transaction. The reviewed current sources are consistent on the general 3.5% forex rate, Infiniti's 0.99% exception and 1% DCC fee. The engine deliberately keeps segment-specific ATM pricing and domestic-only card variants from becoming bankwide promises.
ICICI Bank International Debit Card & Overseas ATM BankingCurrent debit-card Schedule of Charges states 3.5% of transaction amount as the foreign-currency markup fee, excluding applicable GST. Effective 21 June 2026, the current debit-card Schedule of Charges states 3.50% + GST for DCC transactions at international locations or INR transactions with an India-located merchant registered in a foreign country. A separate current travel page still shows 1% + GST, so the conflict is exposed.Customer sets the international transaction limit in iMobile/Internet Banking; the bank/card maximum remains product-specific and no universal ceiling is manufactured from a single card variant. International debit-card usage is subject to current FEMA/RBI permissible-current-account rules and applicable tax/regulatory treatment. An app setting cannot authorize a prohibited use. Live conflict retained: current general travel page says DCC 1% + GST, but the effective-dated debit-card Schedule of Charges says 3.50% + GST from 21 June 2026. The dated schedule is treated as the current price while the contradiction remains visible.
IDFC FIRST Bank International Debit Card & Overseas ATM BankingCurrent Silver Plus Visa Platinum schedule publishes 3.50%. IDFC FIRST's broad savings zero-fee disclosure still says forex markup applies on international ATM/POS/debit-card transactions; some separately priced programmes may waive or alter it, so the engine retains programme scope. No separate universal debit-card DCC fee was confirmed in the reviewed debit-card sources. The engine does not reuse IDFC FIRST credit-card DCC/currency-conversion wording for debit cards.Mobile/Internet Banking allows customer-selected daily domestic and international withdrawal/purchase limits within preset product ceilings. Exact maxima are debit-card variant specific. Debit-card international usage remains subject to exchange-control/RBI rules; IDFC FIRST's debit-card terms explicitly prohibit remittances for which foreign exchange release is not permissible. The engine preserves the apparent tension between broad 'zero charges on international ATM/POS services' marketing and product schedules that publish fixed ATM fees/forex markup by treating fee waivers as account-programme scoped, not bankwide.
IndusInd Bank International Debit Card & Overseas ATM BankingCurrent IndusInd Visa Platinum Debit Card publishes 2% cross-currency markup. INDIE publishes 2% for Star/Super Star and no exchange-rate markup for the qualifying Signature Debit Card under Mega Star; card/programme scope is preserved. No separate current universal debit-card DCC fee was confirmed in the reviewed IndusInd debit-card sources. The engine does not copy IndusInd credit-card DCC pricing into debit cards.Current Visa Platinum reference: ₹1 lakh ATM and ₹2 lakh POS. IndusInd allows customers to set lower limits, and published international limits vary by card/chip variant; no bankwide international maximum is synthesized. International use remains subject to RBI/FEMA permissible-current-account rules and applicable bank/network restrictions despite card channel enablement. The engine does not flatten 2% Platinum/INDIE Star pricing with the zero-markup Signature exception, and keeps current-account ATM charges separate from universal debit-card claims. Debit-card DCC remains unfilled without direct evidence.
Kotak Mahindra Bank International Debit Card & Overseas ATM BankingKotak's current debit-card terms/schedules publish a 3.5% cross-currency markup on foreign-currency debit-card transactions using the applicable Visa/Mastercard wholesale conversion rate; specific premium-card exceptions should remain tied to their own programme schedules. First-party conflict preserved: several current Kotak fee pages and the May 2025 NRI GSFC publish 1% + GST DCC on INR transactions at international locations/overseas-registered merchants, while other current Kotak savings/Privy pages display 3.5% + GST. No single DCC rate is asserted bankwide until Kotak resolves the live conflict for the exact product.Cardholders can control international availability and card limits within product maxima. Because current card/account programmes differ, no single bankwide international daily ceiling is inferred. International debit-card usage remains limited to permissible current-account transactions under RBI/FEMA rules; operational card enablement does not authorize a prohibited foreign-exchange purpose. DCC is deliberately conflict-gated at 1% versus 3.5% across current first-party Kotak pages. Standard ₹150/₹25 ATM pricing is also kept account-scoped because premium programmes can waive or alter the bank charge.
SBI International Debit Card & Overseas ATM BankingFor the reviewed SBI debit-card international tariff, overseas ATM cash withdrawal carries a 3.5% transaction-amount component plus the ₹100 minimum charge, while international POS/e-commerce carries 3% of transaction amount, each plus GST. These are stored as channel-specific SBI charges, not one universal forex rate. The reviewed SBI debit-card charge table does not publish a separate universal Dynamic Currency Conversion fee. The engine therefore does not relabel SBI's international POS/e-commerce charge as a DCC surcharge or invent an additional DCC percentage.Cardholder can set/modify ATM and POS/e-commerce limits within the card variant's prescribed maximum and switch domestic/international usage or channels on/off. Local ATM/country limits can be lower. International debit-card use remains limited to permissible current-account transactions under FEMA/RBI rules; the card's operational limit does not override a regulatory restriction or prohibited-use rule. No numeric conflict was forced into one value. The engine keeps the Global International card's card-specific limits separate from general SBI international transaction charges and leaves a debit-card DCC rate unfilled because the reviewed tariff does not state one separately.
YES BANK International Debit Card & Overseas ATM BankingVariant-specific: current YES EXPLORE/ENGAGE publish 3%; current APEX, Premia and Aura publish 0%, as do several selected premium/business variants. No bankwide single percentage is inferred. A current YES BANK Freedom Flexi business-account schedule effective 1 January 2026 explicitly publishes 1% + GST DCC for debit-card INR transactions at international locations or overseas-registered merchants. Because not every reviewed retail card page exposes DCC, the engine keeps this as schedule-scoped evidence rather than asserting it universally.Customers can manage card usage and limits through supported channels, bounded by the debit-card product limit. International card maxima remain variant-specific. International debit-card use remains subject to RBI/FEMA permissible-current-account rules. Enabling international use does not override exchange-control restrictions. Instead of flattening pricing, the engine preserves 3% mainstream versus 0% premium forex and ₹175 versus product/schedule-specific overseas ATM pricing. DCC 1% is retained only where the current debit schedule explicitly states it.
